Show Details Shared Note: - "George Menzel was a damask weaver. He served in the War of 1866and 187071 in France. He was pleased to shake hands with EmperorFrederick III.

As a young couple George and Marie sailed to South America in a sailingship; it took 3 months. The climate did not agree with George so theyreturned to Europe on a steam ship in 6 weeks. Had they received theletter from brother John in time they would have come instead to U. S. A.With George sailed two other couples one Maries sister and herhusband who remained in South America; the other couple returned.Marie Simon Menzel had inherited some money which was used for thetrip, they even paid for the couple who came back with them, but nevergot a cent back. This ended their friendship.

In Germany, he built two apartment houses, one of which was destroyedby bombs in World War II and the second confiscated by the Poles afterthe War. According to Mary Pauline Menzel, a cousin owned theproperty when it was confiscated; the family was moved to a smallapartment and the mother was not allowed to go back their owner'sapartment to retrieve her glasses.
