Show Details Shared Note: - Nesta, his wife was called the "Helen of Wales" being the most beautiful woman of her time. She had been the mistress of King Henry I of England (1100 1135) and her sons by him were named "Fitz Henry". He seems to have put her aside forpolitical reasons for Matilda, daughter of Malcolm of Scotland and she married Gerald Fitz Walter.

Evidently she and Henry were still on amicable terms as Gerald was a staunch friend of the King for many years after his marriage.

In 1107, Owain ap Cadwgan, her cousin, met her at her castle at Pembrooke and later returned, raided the castle and carried of Nesta and her children. Cadwgan, much distressed at his son's deed, tried to make him return Gerald's wife tohim but he detained her for some time.

Years after, Gerald had his revenge for, with his Flemings he forced battle on Owain who was killed by the first discharge of arrows.

Nesta was certainly one of the most noted women of her time and her blood flows in the veils of a number of the greatest families of England, Ireland and Wales.
