Centennial History of Missouri

Dr. Arthur O. Fisher, who has attained prominence as a surgeon of St.Louis, was born August 4, 1884, in the state of Wisconsin. His father,E. A. Fisher, was a druggist of Wisconsin for several years but at arecent date retired from business, though he still makes his home inthe Badger state. He married Emma Steuber, a daughter of CasperSteuber of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. He, too, survives.

Dr. Fisher was their only child. He obtained his early education in thepublic schools of his native state and afterward attended theUniversity of Wisconsin, from which he was graduated with theBachelor of Arts degree in 1905. He afterwards pursued a thoroughcourse in medicine in the Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore,Maryland, from which he was graduated in 1909. Later he spent fiveyears in the Johns Hopkins and Washington University hospitals,putting his theoretical knowledge to the practical test and gaining wideand valuable experience in various branches of practice. He has sincegiven his attention to surgical work in St. Louis and has won a place ofprominence in professional circles. He is now connected with theBarnes Hospital, the St. Louis Children's Hospital and is also a teacherof surgery in the Washington University. He belongs to the St. LouisMedical Society, Missouri State Medical Society and the AmericanMedical Association and is also a Fellow of the American College ofSurgeons and a member of the Surgical Association of St. Louis. He isconstantly promoting his knowledge and efficiency through study,experience and investigation and wherever he is known he is spoken ofin terms of the highest regard by reason of what he has accomplishedalong professional lines.

On the 20th of July, 1915, Dr. Fisher was married in San Diego,California, to Miss Adalia Kroehnke, a daughter of Peter Kroehnke ofMilwaukee, Wisconsin. To Dr. and Mrs. Fisher has been born aninteresting little daughter, Jessie Louise, now four years of age. 1 CONT
Dr. Fisher is a member of the Phi Beta Pi, a medical fraternity. Inpolitics he has always been a republican when national questions andissues are involved, but at local elections casts his ballot for men andmeasures rather than parties. He is well known in the medicalprofession in St. Louis and is a man of genial disposition who alwaysbrings sunshine with him into the sick room. He carries with him hopeand courage and recognizes the value of mental as well as physicalstimulant. For ten years he has successfully practiced surgery in St.Louis, steadily winning advancement and his position has long sincebecome an enviable one.
