He attended medical school at Johns HopkinsUniversity, Baltimore, MD, earning a medical degree in 1909 and workedat Washington University, St. Louis, MO. He became a surgeon andpracticed at Barnes Hospital and the St. Louis Children's Hospital and wasa professor of surgery at Washington University.
