Shared Note: - Obituary -- "Richard Lee (Dick) Nibeck of Kansas City, Missouri, formerlyof Rantoul, Illinois, died July 2nd at the age of 80. Mr.Nibeck was aretired Air Force Captain, serving in WWII and Korea and was awarded theBronze Star. He was a meteorologist and Arctic weather specialist,serving as a weather observer, forecaster and instructor. Captain Nibeckserved 22 years in the United States Air Force before retiring in l963.Hethen served 16 years in the Civil Service as a weather forecastinginstructor. He was a commercial pilot and flight instructor for smallplanes for many years and started the Aero Flying Club on Chanute AirForce Base. He was a licensed carpenter, an apiarist - receiving stateand national honey awards, and a Ham Radio Operator.He was a founding member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church inRantoul. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Past Patron of the Order of theEastern Star. He was most recently active at Swope Park Baptist Churchwhere he worked with the XYZ group. He was born in Independence, Iowa on February 8, 1923 to Ernest LeeNibeck and Irene Elizabeth Hertzberg. In 1943 he married Claudia AleciaScammon, in Orono, Maine; they were married for 56 years. He marriedMildredLouise Longfellow Keith on November 25, 2000; she survives. He isalso survived by 3 daughters: Elizabeth (Betsy) Nibeck-Gay of Kennesaw,GA, Barbara Tichelbaut of Bedford, TX and Diane Nibeck-Smith ofIndianapolis, IN, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, threestepdaughters and 10 step-grandchildren. hE WAS PRECEDED IN DEath by ason, David Nibeck and his parents Ernest and Irene and wife Claudia.
He was a fine Christian man and gave each of his daughters a foundationof belief that has sustained all of them throughout the years.
